Activated during the Vietnam War, H&MS-16 played a crucial role at bases such as Marble Mountain Air Facility, supporting helicopter squadrons by ensuring aircraft readiness through maintenance and supply operations. The squadron’s efforts contributed significantly to the operational effectiveness of helicopter missions, including troop transport, medical evacuation, and logistical resupply. After the Vietnam War, H&MS-16 continued to support Marine aviation until it was eventually redesignated as part of the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) reorganization.
H&MS-26

Headquarters & Maintenance Squadron 26 (H&MS-26) was a United States Marine Corps aviation support unit assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 26, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. Activated in the 1950s, H&MS-26 provided critical logistical, administrative, and intermediate maintenance support to the helicopter squadrons of MAG-26, especially during deployments and operations. The squadron played a vital role during the Vietnam War era and in subsequent Cold War military exercises and contingencies. In 1988, H&MS-26 was redesignated as Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26 (MALS-26), reflecting its evolving role in support of Marine aviation operations.
H&MS-36 Sub Unit 2

H&MS-36 Sub Unit 2 was a detachment of Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 36 (H&MS-36), part of Marine Aircraft Group 36 (MAG-36) within the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing of the United States Marine Corps. Active during the Vietnam War, Sub Unit 2 provided essential aviation maintenance and logistical support for helicopter operations in the I Corps Tactical Zone of South Vietnam. The unit’s personnel were responsible for maintaining and repairing aircraft, ensuring the operational readiness of helicopters supporting combat and resupply missions. H&MS-36 Sub Unit 2 contributed significantly to the overall mission effectiveness of Marine aviation units in the region before being deactivated following the reduction of U.S. forces in Vietnam.
