The 6th Medical Supply, Optical and Maintenance Unit (6th MEDSOM) was a key logistical support unit within the U.S. Army’s medical service system. Activated to provide critical medical supply, maintenance, and optical repair support, 6th MEDSOM played an essential role in ensuring front-line medical units and hospitals had the necessary equipment and pharmaceuticals during deployments, notably in the Cold War era in Europe.
