The Naval Nuclear Power School (NNPS) was established in 1955 as part of the United States Navy’s efforts to develop a highly trained force for its growing fleet of nuclear-powered submarines and ships. Originally located in New London, Connecticut, and later moved to Bainbridge, Maryland, the school finally settled in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1998. NNPS provides rigorous academic instruction in nuclear physics, reactor engineering, and thermodynamics to enlisted personnel and officers selected for service in the Navy’s nuclear propulsion program. The school's graduates have played vital roles in operating and maintaining the Navy's nuclear-powered warships, contributing significantly to the United States’ maritime dominance and strategic deterrence capabilities.
USS GARCIA (FF-1040)

USS GARCIA (FF-1040) was a Garcia-class frigate of the United States Navy, commissioned on December 21, 1964. Named in honor of U.S. Marine Private First Class Fernando Luis Garcia, the ship was designed primarily for anti-submarine warfare during the Cold War era. Throughout her service, USS GARCIA participated in numerous Atlantic and Mediterranean deployments, supporting NATO operations and maintaining a forward presence. She was decommissioned on January 31, 1989, and later transferred to the Pakistan Navy, where she served as PNS Saif.

Throughout her service, Holland operated primarily in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, including deployments to Holy Loch, Scotland, and Rota, Spain. After nearly three decades of service, she was decommissioned on 30 September 1996.
