Eugene Nance

The 2d Battalion, 502d Infantry Regiment, is a storied unit of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), known as the "Strike" Battalion. Constituted during World War II, the battalion parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and fought in key campaigns across Europe, including Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge. In Vietnam, the 2-502d earned a reputation for valor during numerous operations, including the brutal fighting in the A Shau Valley. In recent decades, the battalion has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, continuing its legacy of excellence in air assault operations and combat leadership.

The Combat Support Company (CSC), 5th Battalion, 32nd Armor Regiment was an integral part of the 24th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, during the late Cold War era. The unit provided specialized support in reconnaissance, anti-armor, and mortar operations, bolstering the division’s armored capabilities. Throughout its tenure with the 24th Infantry Division, the CSC 5-32 Armor participated in numerous field exercises and training rotations designed to maintain combat readiness. The unit contributed to the rapid deployment posture and operational effectiveness of the division until the Army’s post-Cold War restructuring led to changes in its organization and mission.

The 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment ("Blue Spaders") has a distinguished history dating back to its constitution in 1901. The unit served with valor in both World Wars, fighting in key campaigns including the Normandy landings, the Battle of the Bulge, and the liberation of France during World War II as part of the 1st Infantry Division. In Vietnam, the 1/26th earned further honors for its actions in major operations such as the Tet Offensive. More recently, the battalion has deployed in support of operations in the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan, maintaining its reputation for excellence and dedication to mission.
