VMF-311, known as the "Hell's Belles," was a United States Marine Corps fighter squadron established during World War II in December 1942. The squadron flew the F4U Corsair and participated in combat operations in the Pacific Theater, particularly in the Philippines and Okinawa campaigns. After the war, VMF-311 became notable as the first Marine squadron to fly the F9F Panther jet and later saw extensive combat during the Korean War, providing close air support with the new jets. The squadron underwent several redesignations, eventually becoming VMA-311, and continued its distinguished service through the Vietnam War and into the 21st century.
