• Origins: The 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment (3/25) is a reserve infantry battalion of the United States Marine Corps, first activated during World War II in 1943. • World War II Service: 3/25 participated in the fierce battles of Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. They played a critical role in the capture of Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. • Reactivation: After being deactivated post-WWII, 3/25 was reactivated in 1962 as part of the Marine Corps Reserve, with its headquarters in Brook Park, Ohio. • Operation Desert Storm: Elements of 3/25 were activated and deployed during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, supporting coalition efforts in the Gulf War. • Significant Losses in Iraq: In 2005, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, 3/25 suffered the heaviest casualties of any Marine battalion that year, losing 46 Marines and two Navy Corpsmen. • Tragic Roadside Bombing: On August 3, 2005, 14 Marines from Lima Company, 3/25, were killed by a single IED in Haditha, Iraq—one of the deadliest attacks against U.S. forces in the conflict. • "Lima Company" Documentary: The story of Lima Company’s 2005 Iraq deployment was immortalized in the documentary “The Lima Company Memorial: Duty, Honor, Sacrifice.” • Community and Memorials: The battalion’s sacrifices have been commemorated with the Eyes of Freedom memorial, an art installation that travels the U.S. honoring the 3/25 Marines lost in Iraq. • Current Composition: 3/25 is part of the 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, with companies spread across Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. • Motto and Spirit: The battalion’s motto is "Ready for All, Yielding to None," reflecting their enduring commitment to readiness and resilience in the face of adversity.
