1:9th Marines

• The 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, also known as "The Walking Dead," is one of the oldest and most decorated infantry units in the United States Marine Corps. • The battalion was first activated in 1917 and has since participated in numerous campaigns and conflicts, including World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. • During the Vietnam War, the 1/9th Marines took part in some of the bloodiest battles, including the Battle of Hue City and the Tet Offensive. • The battalion earned the Presidential Unit Citation for its actions during the Battle of Hue City in 1968, where they fought house-to-house against entrenched North Vietnamese forces. • In 2003, the 1/9th Marines deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and played a significant role in the capture of Baghdad. • The battalion was reactivated in 2007 and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. • In 2012, the 1/9th Marines were again deployed to Afghanistan and conducted operations in Helmand Province. • Throughout its history, the 1/9th Marines has received numerous awards and honors, including the Navy Unit Commendation and the Combat Action Ribbon. • The battalion's motto, "Keep Up the Fire," reflects its commitment to never backing down from a fight and always pressing forward in the face of adversity. • The 1/9th Marines continues to uphold its legacy as a proud and courageous fighting force, ready to answer the call of duty whenever and wherever it may be needed.
