The U.S. Army Medical Department Activity (MEDDAC) is a unit responsible for providing comprehensive medical, dental, and preventive care to soldiers, their families, and eligible beneficiaries. MEDDAC units trace their origins to the establishment of permanent Army hospitals and medical detachments, evolving significantly during the 20th century to meet the healthcare needs of an expanding and increasingly mobile force. Throughout conflicts such as World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam, MEDDACs played a vital role in casualty treatment, evacuation, and rehabilitation. Today, MEDDAC units operate modern military hospitals and clinics on Army installations worldwide, ensuring force readiness through medical support and health services.
