The 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment (1/46th Infantry) was originally constituted in 1917 as part of the U.S. Army during World War I. The battalion is most renowned for its service as part of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade in the Vietnam War, where it participated in major operations such as Operation Wheeler/Wallowa and Operation Frederick Hill. Throughout its history, the 1/46th Infantry has earned a reputation for bravery and professionalism in combat, receiving several unit citations and commendations.
