The unit served with valor in numerous major conflicts, including the Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, World War II, and the Vietnam War, earning multiple campaign streamers and commendations. In World War II, the battalion fought as part of the 8th Infantry Division in the European Theater, participating in operations in Normandy, Northern France, and Germany.
