• Origins: The 50th Civil Engineer Squadron (CES) traces its origins to the activation of the 50th Air Base Squadron in 1949, supporting the then-newly formed 50th Fighter Wing. • Schriever AFB: The 50th CES is based at Schriever Space Force Base (formerly Schriever Air Force Base), Colorado, and plays a vital role in supporting space operations infrastructure. • Space Mission Support: The squadron is unique among CES units due to its primary focus on supporting the infrastructure needs of space and satellite operations, including security and hardening of sensitive facilities. • Global War on Terror: Personnel from the 50th CES have deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, providing engineering expertise in combat zones. • Disaster Response: The squadron regularly trains for and participates in emergency response, including real-world events such as natural disaster recovery both on and off base. • Energy Conservation: The 50th CES has received Air Force-level recognition for innovative energy conservation projects that significantly reduced base energy consumption. • Historical Facilities: The squadron is responsible for maintaining several unique and highly secure facilities used for satellite command and control, some of which are among the most secure in the Air Force. • Civil Engineering Skills: Members of the unit are trained in various specialties, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). • Community Engagement: The 50th CES is active in the local community, participating in Habitat for Humanity, STEM outreach, and local disaster drills. • Transition to Space Force: As Schriever AFB transitioned to Schriever Space Force Base in 2021, the 50th CES adapted to new missions supporting the U.S. Space Force, highlighting its flexibility and enduring importance.
