• Origins: The 18th Security Police Squadron (18th SPS) traces its roots to the 18th Air Police Squadron, first activated in the early 1950s as part of the U.S. Air Force's growing security needs during the Cold War. • Kadena Air Base: The unit has been primarily based at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, providing vital security for one of the largest and most strategically important U.S. Air Force installations in the Pacific. • Vietnam War Involvement: During the Vietnam War era, 18th SPS personnel deployed in support roles throughout Southeast Asia, reinforcing base security and supporting air operations. • Operation Desert Storm: Members of the 18th SPS were deployed to Southwest Asia during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, helping secure coalition airbases and supporting combat operations. • Transition to Security Forces: In 1997, the Air Force re-designated all Security Police units as Security Forces.
