ABOUT HHC MICOM
- Origins: The Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Missile Command (HHC MICOM) was established at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, to serve as the command headquarters for the U.S. Army’s missile development and management activities.
- Creation Date: MICOM was officially activated on August 1, 1962, consolidating numerous missile research and development efforts under a single command.
- Cold War Role: During the Cold War, HHC MICOM coordinated the development and deployment of key missile systems, such as the HAWK, Redstone, and Nike Hercules, enhancing U.S. air defense capabilities.
- Patriot Missile System: MICOM played a pivotal role in the development, testing, and fielding of the Patriot Missile System, which gained fame during the Gulf War for its anti-missile capabilities.
