ABOUT 1st Batlion 7th Infantry
- Origins in the War of 1812: The 7th Infantry Regiment, to which 1st Battalion belongs, was established in 1812 and has the nickname “Cottonbalers” for their defense of New Orleans behind cotton bales during the War of 1812.
- Mexican-American War: The regiment earned 14 campaign streamers in the Mexican War, including major battles like Veracruz, Cerro Gordo, and Chapultepec.
- Civil War Valor: The 7th Infantry fought in many key battles, including Antietam, Gettysburg, and Appomattox, serving with distinction for the Union.
