The 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, often referred to as "1-14 Infantry," is a distinguished unit within the 25th Infantry Division of the United States Army. Nicknamed the "Golden Dragons," the battalion traces its origins back to 1861 and has seen combat in major conflicts including the Indian Wars, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, and more recent operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. During its service in the Vietnam War as part of the 25th Infantry Division, the 1-14th played a vital role in numerous operations and earned several unit citations for valor.   • Origins in World War II: The 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment (1-14 IN) was originally assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in 1941 and saw extensive combat in the Pacific Theater during World War II, including Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons, and Luzon campaigns.
  • “Golden Dragons” Nickname: The 1-14th Infantry is known as the “Golden Dragons,” a nickname reflecting their fierce reputation and the unit’s motto: “Right of the Line.”
