Marine Barracks Hawaii traces its origins to 1914, when it was established to provide security and support for the growing U.S. naval presence at Pearl Harbor.   • Oldest Marine Post on Oahu: Marine Barracks Hawaii traces its origins back to 1914, making it one of the oldest Marine posts in the Pacific region.
  • Home of the 3rd Marine Regiment: The base is best known as the home of the 3rd Marine Regiment, often called "America’s Battalion," which has played a key role in Pacific operations.
  • Strategic Pacific Location: Situated at Kaneohe Bay on the island of Oahu, the barracks provide a strategic location for rapid deployment across the Pacific and Asia.
  • Pearl Harbor Attack: On December 7, 1941, the base was attacked by Japanese aircraft just minutes before the main assault on Pearl Harbor, resulting in Marine casualties and marking the first American ground combat of WWII.
