ABOUT 910th Airlift Wing
- Established in 1963: The 910th Airlift Wing was first established in 1963 as the 910th Troop Carrier Group, part of the Air Force Reserve, at Youngstown Municipal Airport, Ohio.
- Aerial Spray Mission: The 910th Airlift Wing is the Department of Defense’s only large-area fixed-wing aerial spray unit, tasked with controlling disease vectors, pests, and oil spills.
- Operation Desert Storm: Members of the 910th were deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, providing vital airlift and logistical support during the Gulf War.
- Humanitarian Relief Efforts: The unit has participated in disaster relief missions, such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005, where it conducted aerial spray operations to control mosquito populations and prevent disease.
- Aircraft Evolution: Over the years, the 910th has operated several aircraft, including the C-119 Flying Boxcar, C-130 Hercules, and the UC-123K Provider for spray missions.
- Unique Aerial Spray System: The wing employs the Modular Aerial Spray System (MASS), which can be installed on a C-130 in just hours, allowing rapid deployment for pest or oil spill emergencies.
- Global Reach: The 910th’s missions have taken it around the world, including deployments to Southwest Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean for both military and humanitarian operations.
