History of 433rd Airlift Wing

The 433rd Airlift Wing is a unit of the United States Air Force Reserve Command based at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. It is one of the largest units in the Air Force Reserve, with approximately 2,500 personnel. The wing operates and maintains C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft, which are used for strategic airlift missions around the world. The 433rd Airlift Wing plays a vital role in supporting military operations and humanitarian missions.

ABOUT 433rd Airlift Wing

  • The 433rd Airlift Wing is based at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.
  • The wing was activated on November 3, 1965, as the 433rd Troop Carrier Wing, later redesignated as an airlift wing in 1992.
  • During the Vietnam War, the 433rd Troop Carrier Wing provided airlift support for combat operations in Southeast Asia.
  • The 433rd Airlift Wing has a long history of supporting humanitarian missions, including disaster relief efforts and medical evacuation missions.
