ABOUT 42nd Air Base Wing
- The 42nd Air Base Wing was established in 1940 as the 42nd Bombardment Group.
- During World War II, the 42nd Bombardment Group flew B-18 Bolo, B-26 Marauder, and B-25 Mitchell aircraft in combat operations.
- The 42nd Air Base Wing is currently based at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.
- In 1994, the 42nd Air Base Wing was redesignated as the 42nd Air Base Wing and became responsible for providing support services to Maxwell AFB and Gunter Annex.
- The 42nd Air Base Wing has supported numerous operations, including Operation Desert Storm, Operation Allied Force, and Operation Enduring Freedom.
- In addition to its military duties, the 42nd Air Base Wing also supports the Air University, which is responsible for professional military education within the Air Force.
- The 42nd Air Base Wing has received numerous awards and decorations, including the Air Force Meritorious Unit Award and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
- One of the units under the 42nd Air Base Wing is the 42nd Medical Group, which provides healthcare services to military personnel and their families.
- In 2019, the 42nd Air Base Wing celebrated its 79th anniversary of service to the United States Air Force.
