History of 377th Air Base Wing

The 377th Air Base Wing is a United States Air Force unit based at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. The wing is responsible for providing support services to numerous tenant units at the base, including the 58th Special Operations Wing and the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center. The 377th Air Base Wing is also involved in a variety of mission support functions, such as security forces, civil engineering, logistics, and medical services. Additionally, the wing plays a critical role in base operations and emergency response efforts.

ABOUT 377th Air Base Wing

  • Established in 1943 as the 377th Bombardment Group, serving in World War II
  • Received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for exceptional service during the Korean War in 1953
  • Re-designated as the 377th Air Base Wing in 2009, providing support for Kirtland Air Force Base
  • Hosted the first joint multinational exercise on U.S. soil in 2019, bringing together multiple countries for training
  • Operates Thunderbird Field, a historic airfield used for pilot training during World War II
  • Supported relief efforts during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, providing aid to affected areas in the Gulf Coast
  • Home to the 377th Medical Group, providing healthcare and medical services to military personnel and their families
  • Established the Kirtland Partnership Committee, fostering collaboration between the base and local community
  • Participated in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, providing logistical support and air transportation for troops
  • Received the Meritorious Unit Award for outstanding service during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan
