Delta Company, 97th Combat Engineer Battalion, has a distinguished history of service within the U.S. Army. Activated during World War II, the unit played a pivotal role in the European Theater, supporting Allied advances by constructing bridges, clearing obstacles, and enabling troop movements. In subsequent decades, D Company deployed to conflicts including the Korean and Vietnam Wars, providing vital engineering support in diverse and challenging environments.   • World War II Origins: D Company, 97th Combat Engineer Battalion traces its lineage back to World War II, when the 97th Engineer General Service Regiment was activated in 1942 at Camp Swift, Texas.
  • European Theater Service: The 97th Engineers landed in Normandy shortly after D-Day and participated in the construction of bridges, roads, and clearing operations across France, Belgium, and Germany.
  • Rhine River Crossing: The 97th Engineers played a pivotal role in constructing floating pontoon bridges across the Rhine River, enabling Allied armored divisions to advance into the heart of Germany.
