- Historic Roots: The 9th Infantry Regiment ("Manchu") was first constituted in 1855 and has a storied history, serving in major conflicts from the Indian Wars to the present day.
- Boxer Rebellion - The “Manchu” Nickname: The regiment earned the nickname “Manchu” after its campaign in China during the Boxer Rebellion (1900), notably for a 55-mile forced march to relieve besieged diplomats in Peking (Beijing).
- Korean War Heroics: The 9th Infantry Regiment played a pivotal role in the defense of the Pusan Perimeter and the breakout from the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War.
- Vietnam Deployments: Elements of the 9th Infantry Regiment, including HHC, served with distinction in Vietnam, conducting numerous air and ground operations.
