ABOUT 60 FMS MAC
- Origins: The 60th Field Maintenance Squadron (60 FMS) was part of the 60th Military Airlift Wing, based at Travis Air Force Base, California, and later evolved through reorganizations into the Maintenance Aircraft Component (MAC) functions.
- Mission: The primary mission of 60 FMS MAC was to provide aircraft maintenance and component support for the wing’s extensive fleet of cargo and transport aircraft, including the C-5 Galaxy, C-141 Starlifter, and later the C-17 Globemaster III.
- Vietnam War Support: During the Vietnam War, 60 FMS played a crucial role in sustaining airlift operations, ensuring aircraft were mission-ready for critical supply and medevac missions to Southeast Asia.
