ABOUT 3rd FAAD
- Origins: The 3rd Forward Area Air Defense (FAAD) Battalion traces its roots to the Cold War, formed in response to the growing threat of low-flying aircraft and helicopters on the modern battlefield.
- Mission: The unit's primary mission was to provide short-range air defense protection to maneuver and support units against aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
- Key Equipment: The battalion was equipped with the AN/TWQ-1 Avenger Air Defense System, a mobile, surface-to-air missile system mounted on a Humvee, as well as Stinger missile teams.
- Gulf War Service: Elements of the 3rd FAAD deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Desert Storm, providing critical air defense coverage during the liberation of Kuwait.
- Unit Motto: The 3rd FAAD adopted the motto "Ready and Vigilant," reflecting its rapid deployment capabilities and constant state of alertness.
