History of 8TH AIR FORCE

The 8th Air Force, established in 1942, played a pivotal role during World War II as the United States Army Air Forces’ primary strategic bombing force in the European Theater. From bases in England, it conducted extensive daylight bombing campaigns against Nazi Germany, targeting industrial, military, and transportation centers to weaken the enemy’s war capability. The unit was instrumental in supporting the Normandy invasion and subsequent Allied advances.
