ABOUT VP-30
- Oldest Maritime Patrol Training Squadron: VP-30, known as the “Pro’s Nest,” is the U.S. Navy’s oldest and largest maritime patrol training squadron, established on June 30, 1960.
- Nickname: The squadron is affectionately called “The Pro’s Nest” due to its reputation as the professional hub for training P-3 Orion and P-8 Poseidon crews.
- Primary Mission: VP-30 is tasked with training pilots, naval flight officers, and aircrew for the Navy’s maritime patrol and reconnaissance community, focusing on anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).
- P-3 Orion Legacy: For decades, VP-30 was the primary Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) for the P-3C Orion, a legendary maritime patrol aircraft.
