ABOUT 4th Fighter Wing
- The 4th Fighter Wing was activated on August 28, 1947 and is based at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina.
- The unit has a rich history dating back to World War II, where they flew P-51 Mustangs and earned a Distinguished Unit Citation for their actions in the European Theater of Operations.
- In 1948, the 4th Fighter Wing became one of the first units to receive the newly-designed F-86 Sabre jet, which they flew during the Korean War.
- During the Vietnam War, the 4th Fighter Wing flew the F-105 Thunderchief on combat missions, earning several awards for their bravery and skill.
- In 1977, the unit transitioned to the F-4 Phantom II and later to the F-15E Strike Eagle, which they currently operate.
- The 4th Fighter Wing has participated in numerous military operations, including Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom.
