ABOUT VFA-2
- Establishment: The current Strike Fighter Squadron 2 (VFA-2), known as the "Bounty Hunters," was established on October 14, 1972, making it a relatively young squadron compared to some Navy units.
- Nickname: VFA-2 is called the "Bounty Hunters." They are famous for their skull-and-crossbones insignia, a nod to the legacy of Fighter Squadron VF-84, which previously bore the same nickname and insignia.
- Aircraft Evolution: VFA-2 originally operated the F-14 Tomcat, transitioning to the F/A-18F Super Hornet in 2003. They were one of the first squadrons to do so.
