ABOUT Patrol squadron 1
- Historic Beginnings: Patrol Squadron 1 (VP-1) was originally established as VP-1S on 1 July 1924, making it one of the earliest U.S. Navy patrol squadrons formed.
- Multiple Redesignations: Over the years, VP-1 has undergone numerous redesignations, reflecting changes in mission and aircraft, including VP-1S, VP-1B, VP-1F, and finally VP-1 in 1948.
- World War II Service: During WWII, VP-1 operated throughout the Pacific, conducting anti-submarine warfare, reconnaissance, and search and rescue missions, playing a vital role in the island-hopping campaigns.
- Korean War Deployments: In the early 1950s, VP-1 was one of the first patrol squadrons deployed for combat operations during the Korean War, conducting maritime patrols and surveillance.
