ABOUT 501st FSB
- Origins and Activation: The 501st Forward Support Battalion (FSB) was originally constituted as part of the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, and was activated in Germany in 1991, following the reorganization of Army support units after the Cold War.
- Operation Joint Endeavor: The 501st FSB deployed to Bosnia in 1995 as part of NATO’s Implementation Force (IFOR) during Operation Joint Endeavor, providing crucial logistical support in a complex multinational peacekeeping environment.
- Logistics Backbone: As a Forward Support Battalion, the 501st FSB was responsible for supplying food, fuel, ammunition, maintenance, and medical support to the combat units of the 1st Brigade, making it the logistical backbone of the brigade.
- Operation Iraqi Freedom: The battalion deployed to Iraq in 2003, supporting combat operations during the initial invasion and subsequent stability operations in Baghdad and central Iraq.
