Michael David Daniels and Misty Lea Anderson dated through their Junior and Senior years at Leavenworth High School, Leavenworth, Kansas. His father, Craig Daniels was a career Army soldier, and her mother served four years in the U.S. Army. Michael enlisted in the Army before he graduated, in 1988. After basic training and flight school training, Misty joined him at Hunter Army Air Field, Georgia, where they were married, in April, 1990. Four months later, in August, they went on a belated honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas. On the second day of their honeymoon, his company commander called him back to duty. He was deployed to Saudi Arabia, as part of Operation Desert Shield. Six months later, on February 20, 1991, Michael and his pilot, Chief Warrant Officer Hal Hooper Reichle were killed when their helicopter crashed on returning from a reconaissance mission, 65 miles inside Iraq. Michael was buried with full military honors at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, on March 2, 1991.
