In Honor of Our U.S. Military Veterans - Countdown to Veterans Day with VetFriends.com

With the approach of Veterans Day and all year long, VetFriends.com - the largest Web site reuniting and supporting U.S. Veterans and military - encourages all Americans to reflect on the many brave men and women who have served our country. VetFriends.com would like to thank all of our Veteran brothers and sisters, active and reserve military of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

CHARLESTON, SC (October 10, 2007) -- In remembrance of the sacrifices and acts of courage that many men and women made during World War I, Armistice Day was declared a federal holiday on Nov. 11, 1938. Soldiers marched in hometown parades, politicians and Veteran officers gave speeches and held ceremonies all in celebration of the peace they had won. In 1954, Nov. 11 was officially changed to Veterans Day, representing our nation's thanks, loyalty and respect to our Veteran soldiers.

With Veterans Day only weeks away, www.VetFriends.com - the largest Web site for reuniting U.S. Veterans - has initiated a "Countdown to Veterans Day" campaign to encourage and promote Americans to support our Veterans. Efforts include a Veterans Day nationwide parade/event directory, which can be viewed at www.vetfriends.com/parades. Visitors are invited to submit and register community parades and events that may not yet be listed on the site. All listings will be posted on VetFriends.com for over 150,000 visitors per month to view, and circulated through a member newsletter reaching an additional 80,000 people nationwide.

An online Veterans Day forum has been developed on the Web site at www.vetfriends.com/veteransday reaching out to Veterans and anyone else interested in contributing their thoughts and insights in regard to our military personnel and Veterans Day. These submissions will be posted online in a Veterans Day collection throughout the months of October and November and will be distributed to the media.

Additionally, Veterans Day newsletters, press releases and special announcements will be posted, faxed and e-mailed all in support of our Veterans.

Carrying this spirit and tradition of supporting Veterans, VetFriends.com is a Web site designed for U.S. Veterans offering services such as: search over 814,000 members to make contact with old friends and relatives; information on how to obtain your own or a relative's military records and medals that may have been lost; message boards; upload past and present photos; military jokes; search and post reunions and more.

This year, with the approach of Veterans Day, feelings of thankfulness and respect will fill the hearts of the American people, as the community comes together to celebrate, support and show their gratitude to our Veterans and active military soldiers alike.

Founded in 2000 by a Marine Corps Veteran of Desert Storm, thousands of people have been reconnected through VetFriends.com, spanning from World War II through to Operation Desert Storm and the present. VetFriends.com has a current member count of over 800,000 people with 150,000 visitors per month to the site. Please visit www.VetFriends.com for more information or contact us at www.vetfriends.com/contactus.cfm.

VetFriends.com sends our prayers to all who sacrificed, both past and present, living and deceased. Thank You U.S. Veterans and Military.

Please feel free to forward this to all your Friends to help spread the word.

Sincerely,
The Veterans at VetFriends.com
