Memorial Day; Lest We Forget

VetFriends.com Reunites Veterans

Boston (May 20, 2002) - With Memorial Day approaching, it is important for all of us to take a moment to remember the brave men and women who have served and died for our country during our times of need. With our renewed American spirit due to recent events, this year is especially important! And, if you were one of those individuals, you may sometimes wonder what ever happened to the friends who served beside you in the armed forces. VetFriends.com was developed to be the one-source web site for reuniting veterans with their comrades-in-arms.

Currently, there are 29 million United States Veterans, of which 80% served during a time of conflict. They hold their veteran status in high regard, and with intense loyalty. The common experiences among veterans and dependents often create a desire to socialize with others of similar backgrounds. Unfortunately, the Veterans Administration has limited means to keep track of the whereabouts of veterans. Therefore, VetFriends.com is honored to assist veterans to reconnect with their friends and plans to be their one-source for reuniting.

The idea of an easy-to-use, online, veterans registry came to its founder, Marine Corps veteran of Desert Storm Dale F. Sutcliffe, during a conversation with his father-in-law, who had served during the Korean War. When asked whether his father-in-law would attend a hypothetical reunion with his old Army unit, he responded, "I'd be on the next plane to Korea to see those guys." Reflecting on the depth of this reply, Sutcliffe realized those special bonds often withstand the test of time precisely because of the unique and often difficult circumstances under which they were formed. Now, those bonds can be reestablished through modern technology.

And, it's working! This fast-growing web site attracts over 150,000 people every month. June will mark a milestone for VetFriends.com when its subscribed membership base reaches 200,000. As featured on ABC news station, WMDT in Maryland, and AM talk radio, WMTY in Florida, VetFriends' membership site allows veterans, military personnel, families and friends alike to submit their military biographical information into its registry of subscribers…allowing these old friends to be reunited! Additional features include current Military News, bulletin boards and other beneficial information to assist our Veterans.
